ACOT'S OLDEST DRIVER/OWNER
Lou Fray began racing midgets in 1946 in Massachusetts, after returning from NAVY in World War II. He stopped driving professionally at age 63. During the early days of midget racing there were events seven days a week in three series in the Northeast. Lou drove for many car owners, including Pappy Hough, founder and first President of ACOT. ACOT started in 1983 to provide exhibitions for antique car owners to drive before fans throughout the Northeast. In fact Lou drove the New Jersey Brinks owned number 20 Edmunds in ARDC now owned by ACOT member Ken W. Goewey. Lou drove in the following series: ARDC, ARC, NASCAR, NEMA (1970 champ) and SMRC winning three championships with ACOT member John Givens as owner He is a willing mentor to new ACOT owners and drivers. He married his wife Shirley February 19, 1949, who is also an active member of ACOT selling 50/50 tickets at most ACOT events. After marrying Lou she only missed four of his events The Fray's live in Shelton, Connecticut. Lou last drove professionally in 1988 and then became a valued member of ACOT and is also an active Trustee. He is ACOT's oldest, active driver/owner having been born 09/04/25. Driving his # 47 Chevy ll powered 4 cylinder Midget shows he is still young at heart with quick reflexes and a great sight to see on the track at our ACOT events. |
