RULES GOVERNING ACOT EVENTS

 

SAFETY

 

A.       CARS MUST HAVE –

1.        Racing type lap belt anchored to frame/chassis of car, not to any sheet metal

2.        Minimum of two return springs on throttle linkage with at least one at carburetor

3.        NO copper lines carrying fluids except for water

4.        Good tires with no worn spots or cracks on tread surface

5.        Brakes in good working order

6.        Fuel shut off valve and ignition/kill switch plainly marked

7.        Overflow tanks required on paved tracks – no anti freeze to be used

8.        Two skid bars, one on either side of front axle, except for space frame cars where lower frame rail is lower than axle

9.        On cars with open or "live" rear axle the front of all rear radius rods must be chained or cabled to the frame.

10.     Battery must be secured firmly in place

11.     Racing type "quick release" steering wheel, if wheel removal is necessary for driver to enter or exit the car

12.     Accelerator pedal must have toe loop for emergency throttle pull back

13.     Tire and wheel width – 9" for midgets; 10" for sprints.  Midget wheel diameter not to exceed 13:

14.     Cars must have an A (alcohol) or G (gas) decal affixed to both sides of the tail on the headrest, depending on which type fuel is used

15.     Any heim ends on suspension and steering must have a washer between the bolt head and heim end socket to ensure that the heim end will not come off in the event of breakage.  Any bolts securing suspension or steering pieces must have a lock nut or be safety wired

16.     Cars must have a fuel shut off mounted between the tank and the rear axle behind the right rear wheel along the frame on all cars

 

B.       DRIVERS MUST –

1.        Wear Snell approved racing helmet with goggles or face shield

2.        Wear minimum of single layer Nomex type driving suit, fireproof socks, shoes and gloves.  Fireproof underwear is strongly recommended

3.        Have fully charged fire extinguisher in their pit area

4.        Run at a reasonable and safe speed as determined by ACOT officials at site

5.        No driver is to come in first or "win" more than one "feature" event in a row nor more than three "features" in a season

6.        Know and obey the standard racing flags when displayed by a flagger

7.        Attend drivers' meeting at all running shows – those arriving late must check with club officials before being allowed on the track

8.        Be 18 years of age or older

9.        When driving a car with cage, drivers must use an approved 5-point safety harness and must use approved arm restraints

 

OTHER

 

1.        Cars equipped with cages and Volkswagen and other horizontally opposed engines are allowed to run at all ACOT running meets.  Not allowed are – wings on open cockpit cars.

a.        No down tube chassis allowed

b.        Cars must have rounded hoods with no injector boxes.  Intakes or other parts will not protrude more than 5 inches above the highest point of the hood ahead of the windshield riser

c.        All cars must have a conventional sprint/midget tail

d.        All roll cage installations or conversions will be inspected by the technical committee for workmanship and construction before being allowed to run

2.        The wearing of shorts in the pits is strongly discouraged.  Be aware that some tracks do not permit wearing of shorts in their pit area(s)

3.        Stock cars and supers shall not run on track at same time as midgets.  If track time is limited, stock cars/supers may, at the discretion of the club, be put on display only and not run on the track.

4.        Penalties for violation of club rules, including principles of "club spirit", will be handed out by club officials as they deem appropriate

 

RULES FOR AWARDING ACOT POINTS

 

1.        Each antique race car owner who presents a car at an ACOT sanctioned event will be awarded 100 points per (each) day of the meet

2.        There shall be no additional points awarded to an owner for bringing more than one car

3.        No car owner/member shall receive more than 100 points per day regardless of the number of shows sanctioned for that day

4.        Multiple cars of same owner – in the event there shall be two ACOT sanctioned events on the same day(s), and only in such event, points shall be awarded to the person bringing the car to the respective meet, whether or not (s)he is the car's owner

5.        Cars MUST be taken off trailers and displayed with the rest of the ACOT vintage race cars to qualify for points

6.        There shall be no points awarded for "invitation only" shows such as MotorSports or Racearama, where there is limited space for only a few cars

7.        In the event of rain – if any division showing that day gets warm ups before the show is called, ACOT cars in attendance shall receive points for that show

8.        An ACOT sanctioned show is an exhibition which is listed in the ACOT Schedule portion of Pit Chatter and/or the official ACOT Vintage Race Car Tour Calendar.  In case of last minute changes, we will attempt to notify as many members as possible

9.        If a member brings a car and leaves before our portion of the show is over, that car owner shall forfeit any points for that meet.  Early departure must be pre-arranged

10.     Non Car Owner "Driver" points – When a non-driver ACOT car owner brings an antique race car to an ACOT points event and has a non-car owner ACOT member drive the antique race car in on-track exhibitions, that driver – provided he drives the same car in at least 50% of the events – shall be awarded "driver points", receiving the same number of points as the car owner.  IF the car owner qualifies for a points plaque and IF the car owner qualifies for "free" banquet tickets, the non-car owning driver shall also be entitled to a "participation plaque" and free banquet tickets if the Board votes to provide for plaques and free tickets for that year.  In no instance shall any member receive double points for a meet by reason of this rule.
